About RPIA

RPI Ambulance is a student-run organization funded by the Rensselaer Student Union, a private not-for-profit organization operated through the charter of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

The purpose of RPI Ambulance, as stated in the Rensselaer Union Constitution, is:

To provide Emergency Medical Services to the RPI Community, and provide educational programs in the field of emergency medicine for members of the organization and the RPI community.
The Ambulance is operated and maintained by student and community volunteers who receive no pay or benefits for their efforts. We are always in search of volunteers.

What does RPI Ambulance do?

General Service - We provide Emergency Medical Services to the RPI Community 24 hours a day, seven days a week throughout the school year, and year-round when staffing levels permit.

Mutual Aid - We provide Mutual Aid services to the surrounding areas, the City of Troy, the Town of Brunswick, the Town of North Greenbush, and other municipalities as resource levels permit. RPI Ambulance is a co-signer of the Rensselaer County Mutual Aid Plan, and a member of the Rensselaer County Ambulance and Rescue Association.

Athletic Event Coverage - We cover many different athletic events for the RPI Community, from the NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey games at the Houston Fieldhouse to the Division III Men's Football games on the '86 Field. We also cover special athletic events, such as when the Empire State Games were hosted by RPI in the summer of 1997.

Student Activity Coverage - During the school year, we are available for Emergency Medical Services at student events. This includes such events as the Air Force ROTC Veteran's Day "Run to Remember" 5K road race.

CPR Training - CPR Training and certification are provided for all members of RPI Ambulance as well as anyone from the RPI Community who is interested.

Training Courses - In an effort to keep our membership trained at the optimum level, we routinely run internal training courses in various disciplines related to EMS. This ranges from the federally mandated OSHA in-service to updates on New York State treatment protocols.
